I like the fast zombies. The Dawn remake is way better than the original in my opinion. The zombies are so slow and sucky in the original that the actors have to act half retarded in order to convey the sense that there is any real danger present. A perfect illustration of this is a scene in the original Dawn where one guy attacks a zombie with a hammer. He somehow completely misses and instead throws his shoulder limply into the zombies mouth, AND HE'S STILL NOT BITTEN!

The Dawn remake was many orders of magnitude scarier as one could see how those zombies would take down humanity, I can't see how the slow ones from the original dead could, especially once we figured out that head trauma stops them.

That being said, we need to get a copy of this "Dead Set" show. It sounds awesome.

I agree with the haus on this. When I see zombies slowly meandering towards people, I always think "why don't they just fucking kill the zombies?"

Even if millions of slow moving zombies appeared out of nowhere, they would be easily fought off.

Also, I think Return of the Living Dead deserves more props for the fast moving zombie trend. That was the first zombie movie I ever saw where they moved fast. That's another reason why it's one of the greatest b movies of all time. It actually made zombies look like a threat, and is the source of zombies yelling "BRAAAAAAINS"

Seriously, we need to have another retarded movie night, where we watch some of the greats. Evil Dead 2 and Return of the Living Dead imo.

I like fast zombies, but that being said, I hope the zombies in the World War Z movie are slow moving like portrayed in the book. I don't think I am looking for fear as much as a zombie epic in that movie.

I hope they are fast moving to be honest. There is just no way slow moving zombies could possibly get through a military blockade like that one huge battle (forgot the name). You could simply hold them back with riot gear.

Fast moving zombies are the only reason the zombie genre isn't utterly retarded

Re:Zombie history and look into slow vs fast 2 Months ago
Yonkers! Actually, that is one of the reasons I hope the zombies are slow moving. We lost that battle more because of our own ineptitude as opposed to the abilities of the zombies... besides them being a persistent and seemingly unending wave. The whole point of that battle was that we were using conventional tactics (like digging trenches, conceal and containment, shock and awe) against an enemy in which conventional tactics was not effective. Instead of having people in buildings around the kill zone out of harm's way, they were on the streets in the trenches they just dug right in the zombies' path. In fact, the psychological warfare that is part of our battle doctrine came back and whacked us in the face when the zombies relentlessly kept coming after our impressive display. We did have some effective weapons against the zombies, but the "fucktards" in charge didn't have enough ammo for those weapons. Instead, there was more ammo for the more impressive (and less effective... against zombies) weaponry. It was one big clusterfuck. This is why I don't think the zombies need to be fast. In fact, our own ineptitude in fighting the zombies would be more apparent if they were not... and I think that's the whole point of Yonkers.

I like slow zombies... lots and lots and lots of them, with no headshot quickfix. The really persistent kind where even if you hack them into bits the bits keep crawling... ya gotta burn them to ash to destroy them for good.

I agree that for slow moving zombies to be appealing, the really need to be as close to immortal as possible. Each zombie needs to be a living dead version of the original Terminator. They should just keep coming and coming.

However, I do appreciate fast zombies. They would scare me a shit-ton more than a regular zombie. Just the fact that these fuckers can run after me and NOT TIRE OUT, pisses me off.

vs regular zombies I would probably do my best to survive.
vs fast zombies I would probably shoot myself to save the zombies the trouble.

If you shoot yourself you let the zombies win. They cannot be allowed to win. If you must kill yourself at least do it like CJ in the Dawn remake, propane zombie killing bomb suicide FTW!

To me, fast zombies just aren't really zombies anymore; they're reduced to being just another monster that lacks all the cool gimmicks more original monsters have.

See, but what is the point of them moving slow? If they move slow, then they are reduced to being another monstre that lacks all the cool gimmicks more original monsters have, and they are harmless. Zombies can be the "big swarm" if they move fast. The difference is they can actually catch you.

I just don't see how a slow moving zombie horde could possibly get any bigger than a few zombies. Everyone they ran accross would just run, or failing that, walk at a fast pace away.

The best zombies were the Return of the Living Dead zombies. Fast moving, unkillable (Only way to kill was burning, and that caused rain over the gy to bring more), and were smart. They also came up with zombies moaning "BRAAAAINS", thus making them amazing.

It's not that I hate fast zombies or don't think they have their place. It's just for World War Z, I think slow zombies would be more appropriate.

Each type of zombie has its place. World War Z works well with slow zombies because it explains how we royally screwed up. Not to mention the z's have the ability to call other nearby z's to assist them. Just try to run when you have them coming at you from 360 degrees.

Pfff, I'll be happy if it's with fast zombies. Slow moving zombies aren't scary or dangerous.

Basically, ask yourself this. How many 90 year old women can you kill by yourself without getting bit? 50? 100? 1000? Now apply that to slow moving zombies, and tell me you think they could legitimately gain a foothold and take over the world. They couldn't. And that is why I hope they are fast. There has to be some form of "what if this happened? I'd be terrified", which slow moving zombies will never, and can never achieve.

To sum things up, the reason slow moving zombies are gay is because an average person would be able to solo kill hundreds of them. The only way I could see them as a threat is if, let's say, every single person who has ever died comes back from the dead at the same time. Or a virus wipes out most of the world's population, then those dead turn into zombies.

Wait, so you're cool with them taking the book and changing the core concept of a zombie for the movie? Fuck you too.

I believe this is the basis behind the old-school slow zombies. Only recently have they moved away from the grave-crawling zombies

.
