Man of steel

FTA:Favre took a historic whipping to start all those games. He hurt his shoulders, knees, ankles, back, various fingers and kept coming back for more. There were untold concussions and, of course, heaven knows how many non-publicized bruises that would have all but maimed a mortal.

None of them stopped him.

Neither did his numerous off-field tragedies, including the death of his father the day before a game, and self-inflicted drama of a personal life that was often as wild as one of his final drive comebacks.

But whatever it was, there was Favre, Sunday after Sunday.
This is an amazing record. I remember the night I thought it was going to end.

{youtube}Hqe2GSKpzro{/youtube}

Instead, Brett Favre took the field and gave us one of the most memorable games in NFL history.

Favre seeks return, request release from Packers

Why?! I'm going to have to agree with Madden on this one. If you have to keep asking yourself whether or not you want to play the next year, I think it's time to hang it up. He has such a legacy in Green Bay. Why go play for another team after you announced your retirement? I don't get it.

Easy, because he has always wanted to be a Bear, I mean who wants to have a legacy with the Packers? The 2nd best team in the NFC North is not high acclaimed. Now the Bears on the other hand, he could go to them win the superbowl and retire champ with the better team. The answer is obvious Rhyno.

The question then becomes, does Brett Favre really want to play second string to the stud that is Sexy Rexy?

Packers GM, coach deny Favre's request for release

FTA:And if Favre wanted to play for the Packers, he had the chance when he told them a few weeks after his tearful goodbye news conference that he was having second thoughts. With Thompson and McCarthy preparing to board a private plane to fly to Mississippi and seal the deal on a comeback, all Favre had to do was say yes.

He didn't.

With Favre not being offered a defined role with the Packers if he returns at this point, and the team not inclined to release Favre so he could sign with a division rival, a trade may be the best resolution.
I think I agree with the owners on this one. I still don't understand why Favre has this issue at the end of every season. I don't blame the Packers for holding onto him and trying to get something for him if he returns. It's not like they were being dicks and demanding he play out his contact when he decided to retire.

From what I read, he thought it would be easier to retire early and then come back than to decide come August he doesn't want to do it anymore and leave everyone really screwed. Not saying what he did was right, but I don't think there are any ill intentions on his part.

It would be hilarious to watch him come back as a viking, and then play two division games against his former team

The more I'm hearing, the more I'm upset with what Favre is doing: Favre tempted to hit camp to call Packers' 'bluff'

I'm not upset with him at all. I think if anything I'm upset with the Packers. I think Farve is being completely honest, the Packers managment are the ones that are blowing smoke. They're concerned about his legacy? Pfft, they're concerned he could go to the Bears/Vikings and mop the floor with them twice this year.

The Pack is going to start Rogers over Farve? That's completely retarded. They were on the cusp last year, and could actually do it this year with Farve at the helm. Rogers taking over is going to mean a season of rebuliding. And come on, bring Farve in as a backup? How much pressure is that going to put on Rogers. He's going to suck this season, and everytime he makes a bad throw/decisoin the fans are going to be calling for his head and to bring in Farve.

I don't blame the Pack for not wanting him to go to a division foe, but I think they could release him with a "handshake" deal that he wouldn't go to the Vikes or Bears.

On a positive note, I hear the Bucs are the front runners in the trade talks.

Re:Favre retires 5 Months, 3 Weeks ago
I am looking at it from the complete opposite point of view. The Packers made a commitment to Rogers after it had been confirmed (yes, confirmed) Favre was retiring. It wasn't like Favre was being forced out. This has been going on for a couple of years now. Favre says he doens't want to be a distraction, but that's exactly what he is each year. He can't even say for sure whether he's committed to playing again this year.

FTA:Favre was asked about fan rallies held in Wisconsin this week to support him, but it was not mentioned that rallies held in Green Bay and the Milwaukee suburbs drew sparse attendance despite widespread local media attention. The Green Bay rally on Sunday drew less than 200 people, and Monday's rally in the Milwaukee suburbs drew about 30.I think I feel the same way a lot of Packer fans feel.

If given the choice between Farve and Rogers I can't believe you think the fans would pick Rogers. Who gives the Pack the best chance to win? Can you honestly tell me Rogers? Hell, the pack drafted Brian Brohm this year, that shows a lot of faith in Rogers.

If the Pack doesn't take back Farve as a starter I have to think they are letting personal issues get in the way of football judgement. If they want to win this year, they take back Farve, that's the bottom line.

If they don't want him, then trade him to the Bucs (the only real option imo).

I think the fans are expressing great loyalty to their team and the QB that is expecting to start after Favre announced his retirement. Like I said, Favre still can't say for certain whether he is committed to playing this year. If he applies for reinstatement, I'm sure trades will be discussed.

No no, I think you're interpreting that wrong. Favre is 100% committed to playing with the Packers, he would have to evaluate any deal that's reached. According to the interview I read on SI, he only wants to play with a contender (like the Pack), he won't play if he's traded to say the Jets or a team like that.

ROFL! I love this quote: They feel like Favre had something (in place), and that's why he was so anxious to get his release all of a sudden You mean other teams might be interested in a bullet proof, Hall of Fame quarterback coming off one of the 3 best seasons of his career? Wow, shocking!

The Bevell connection is interesting and perhaps cause for scrutiny, but the fact that other teams are interested is hardly damning.
