Beta passes are being randomly inserted into an upcoming warhammer comic. The word on the net is that there is a 1 in 5 shot of getting a pass.
We are looking at getting a comic book store to order extra copies of the comic just for FB. The comics are 4$ a piece and we want at least 5 per person interested.
Each person will get their five sealed copies and hope for the best. I,'m sure a few could be set up as shared accounts for the people that are never online.
Anyway, respond if you are interested in this.

Like I was saying in the emails today, waiting and preordering the collector's edition might be the way to go. They are officially announcing this tomorrow

From the general news category we have: News about the Preorder Box/Collector's Edition! The german website OnlineWelten.com has published some pictures of the WAR-Preorder Box, according to which the box contains:
* Guaranteed Access to Open Beta
* Two Bonus Items
* Early Access to Retail Servers
This seems to be the preorder box for the Collector's Edition, which by default apparently additionally contains
* An Exclusive Games Workshop Miniature
* 12 Bonus Quests that lead to Special Titles and Rewards
* A Comic Book and an Artwork Book
You can find the screens here. In addition, further details may be released at a press event in Paris within the next few days. Also, it seems that some Gamestop subsidiaries are now taking preorders and handing out the three codes necessary for the preorder bonuses. Reportedly some stores may have limited preorders, so better get your game reserved now.
Also, I'm a little worried at them doing so much for a preorder. Bonus quests, rewards, titles, beta, items, early retail access? Would doing that much for a preorder be construed as having a lack of confidence in the game? |

It's a preorder for the Collectors edition. They will make a ton of money off the collectors edition (an extra 30 bucks or so per game) for very little extra effort. It's just marketing, I wouldn't read too much into it.

This was the official release information for the comic book.
* Approximately 20% of codes submitted will be invited to participate in the WARHAMMER: AGE OF RECKONING Beta Test.
The promotional code must be activated by May 31, 2008 to be eligible for the Beta Test.
What this DOES NOT say is that you will immideately know whether or not you got in the Beta, even after submitting the code. All it says is that 20% of the codes submitted will be invited. To me this sounds like you put in your code and then sit and wait to see if you won the "Submitted Code Lottery".

Access to the open beta, so you can get a headstart on building your character and bonus ingame content such as access to Rittenbach's Portable Camp, where you can heal wounds between battles
If you can carry over your beta character to the live servers, that's fucking retarded.

I don't see the big deal unless the characters are broken or leveling on broken content. There will usually always be people that start playing MMOs before you and have more time in.
